Inside the workshop: what a restoration involves

Every donated vehicle goes through the same process, whether it arrives spotless or on a flatbed. Here is what happens between the donation and the handover.

Every donated vehicle goes through the same process, whether it arrives spotless or on the back of a flatbed.

Step one: assess honestly

The first job is not repair, it is assessment. A technician puts the vehicle on the lift and works through a full inspection — brakes, suspension, cooling, electrical, tyres, body integrity. We write down everything, including the things we would want to know if we were buying it ourselves.

Step two: repair to a standard, not a budget

This is where we differ from a resale operation. There is no incentive to do the minimum, because nobody is buying the car. The standard is simple: would we be comfortable if a member of our own family drove this every day?

Step three: hand it over properly

The recipient receives the vehicle at no cost, with the paperwork done and a year of maintenance already arranged. No surprise bill three months later.
